Still Image Transitions

Example 1: Still frame transition- monarch butterfly metamorphosis

Draft: Original footage

This still frame transition is the reverse of what is generally expected for this kind of transition, in that an animation effect goes between two still frames. The more familiar still frame transition is a still image in-between two moving image sequences. Having said this, adding an animation effect (in my case an AE beam effect) between two still images creates energy, something which may not be there in the images themselves. This energy that I created fits with the magic of metamorphosis and creates an interesting transition. The beams I used were coloured to match the caterpillar and butterfly so that they appeared more connected. There is also a fill-in colour between the beams to hide the changing elements.

From my workshop critique a suggestion was made to animate the beams to match the destination shape of the monarch butterfly and to make both backgrounds the same. These two changes had a dramatic effect on the end result as seen in my final video.

Final: Replaced backdrop (4 of 5)
